Make Boundary File for Custom Satellite Imagery Off Road Maps for Lowrance by Rugged Routes
Is it possible to set a route using waypoints in the open desert where the unit tracks to the next point in the route when you get say 200 yards from the point you are headed to? Is that distance able to be user set? All the tutorials I see are using a boat and auto-pilot which drives almost right through each point. I would just like to just have to get fairly close and have the steer arrow move to the next point once I was a set distance from the one I was heading toward.
My PCI Lawrence Baja Map, I have to use my finger on the screen to keep curser in center of screen? how do i set for curser to stay in center of screen, not move off screen>>? Thanks.. Tomas, Puiertecitos
Thank you! Can’t wait to see what you do next
Wrapping up a lot of long standing requests and loose ends. Stay tuned!
I know I’m late to the party and hope you still look at the comments! Your videos are very informative and I have just recently been looking at this unit for my SxS. My question is where do I get the topo pro maps for the HDS 7 or are the still available?
Hi Jim, looks like you got it on the site already! Stay tuned fo rmore videos as we get into off road season down here in so cal.
Nice video! But when I download maps from Genesismaps. The files are called ".at5" on the end. I can find these files when I click "upload USR file" but not submit them If I change the file name to ".usr" it will be sucessfully submited, but the lowrance device will say immediately when I click YES import. - Import timed out.. Tips? I have ELite FS 7
at5's are read automatically and are not imported. see this video: ruclips.net/video/c2C9-KudKwI/видео.html

I followed your directions step-by-step, but I ran into a couple of snags. Does the way the picture was taken whether it was taken like a selfie or horizontally make a difference???? All the pictures that I was able to see were horizontal and not vertical. How do I change that? And some pictures showed a bunch of numbers, but when I clicked on that picture, it would not let me set it as wallpaper. Help.
Yes vertical or horizontal orientation when taking the picture likely makes a difference depending on the phone or camera used. The other symbols you entire are likely due to a corrupt or unsupported file.
Can you add a second camera for the front ?
Through RCAs .. only if you use a switch. But I believe you ca use multiple IP cameras. However I ja ent found any small ip cameras suitable for this application.
Do you have any videos on the xlr??
You mean the XTR? Yes. The 5" version is the same as the hds gen 2. The 7" is the same as hds gen3
Do you have calico available??
Yes, it's a free dowoad on the website.
hello great video In my Lowrance the cursor option does not appear, it is as if it were deactivated, when I press on the screen it does not select anything, is it deactivated?
Which lowrance do you have? Maybe the touch screen is locked ?
I guess I’m the 2nd person to comment😊
on this one! Lots more to watch and learn on this channel.
Can any HDS 7 live be used for offroad? Or does it have to be a specific model? That is, if I have an HDS7 live for marine use, can it be configured to be used Offroad?
I’d like the answer to this as well! Anybody know?
Yes, any HDS can be used for off road. From a navigation perspective, it doesn't actualyl know if youre on land or water.. it all comes down the the basemaps that you have in it.

Do you have a recommendation of which 5/8 wave antenna to buy for a UTV Side x Side?
I personally like the Larsen NMO150B
I use the Rugged Routes belt temp sensor with my Lowrance and it works great
Thanks for posting! The vast majority of people don't have this issue but it does pop up from time to time so I figured I should publish something on it just to be transparent.
Can you share your spreadsheet?

Can you do Picture in picture and have the camera feed up while having your map up?
Yes, that was actually the video after this one which is found here: ruclips.net/video/cY_noovhq9U/видео.html
I have a JL Audio MM-105 stereo in my CanAm X3. It’s a Marine stereo for boats. Is there a way to connect everything together? I tried using Bluetooth to use my HDS Live 9 to control the stereo but it won’t connect. Also are you still working on the “group ride” adapter to add to the Lowrance?
I looked up the jl system looking for a nmea2000 interface but it doesn't look like it has that option for media so bluetooth would be the next option but I've never tried it that way.. not sure how to help further. Yes, live tracking is moving its way up the list. Quickly.
I think a good compromise would be LMR-240- the numbers aren't as good but its useable in the vehicle environment. If you have not used LMR400 before you may find it a little thick . I use LMR400 as a coax for my base station. Also don't go Cheap on the whip, Stick with quality manufacturers like Laird Last thing be aware with the 5/8 wave your useable bandwidth is going to be about +-5mhz, so if you are transmitting on 150 and that is what you are cut to, if you try to say transmit on 146mhz your SWR will go up.
100% agree with you. The 400 is very thick and stiff.. however the UltraFlex variant is much easier to work with and it useable depending on what type of vehicle you're installing it in Race vehicles, UTV's, sand rails, etc shouldn't have an issue. The LMR240 is a great alternative for those looking to squeeze it into tight places. The badwidth of a 5/8 wave antenna bandwidth shouldn't be an issue.. and the gains definitely is worth it.
Where can I get the spread sheet?
I made it, this one is calculated for vhf
Question on the Ferrite block (hopefully I spelt it correct). I have a TYT TH-9000D radio on the dash of my jeep. Quite often. (Not all the time, but enough to drive me nuts). When I press my PTT button. My Jeeps radio (JVC KW-Z1000W) will shut off. When I release the PTT it comes back on. I usually have my Gaia map up on the screen of the JVC and sometimes this will exit my mapping. Or freeze that screen when it comes back on. Now I also have the Baofeng UV82. And again this little hand held will also cause enough interference that the radio (JVC) will randomly turn off. I have my ham license but no nothing of the hobby. Only got it so I could run a VHF radio in my jeep. I've heard of these ferrite blocks. Would something like that help with my interference? And if so. Would that have to go on the JVC? Seeing that a hand held Baofeng can cause that same interference? Thanks
Putting the appropriate ferrite on the cables leading into the jvc stereo could potentially fix the issue. Also, make sure your antenna is tuned. Interference from poor coax and bad swr can cause all sorts of things to happen. I would check the antenna and coax first, route any coax away from stereo wires and resort to ferrite on the wires connecting to the stereo last.
Part 2 is posted here: ruclips.net/video/SrEtCY16jJ4/видео.html
Great information thanks, Any info on how to program your radio?
That could be a large discussion as each radio is a bit different and many use different software. What radio do you have?
Rugged m1 race series
@@RuggedRoutes basically asking for my self and other of my fellow koh 2024 rookies
@@RobRenoRacing I don't currently have the software to program those but from what I understand, it is available from RTSystems at www.rtsystemsinc.com/Mobiles_c_871.html I believe you can also purchase it through Ham Radio Outlet as they have been a retailser for RT Systems for .. over 20 years that I believe I remember.
Great content!! can you go over how to make up, cut the cable? I'm running a rugged 50w and would love to run lmr400 cable but don't know how to physically make the connections.
Thank you! A few things to reiterate here, make sure to use lmr400 Ultra Flex. Regular lmr400 is absolutely terrible to deal with and won't last offroad. Also, be sure to use one of the lengths calculated in the chart. You can also step down to a LMR240UF if you need something easier to work with. For the connectors: they are called pl-259 or UHF connectors and can be soldered or crimped. You can find tutorials on the web for how to install them.. Historically I have personally soldered them. However, its an absolute pain to build these cables. Unless you plan on doing g a lot of these, I don't think getting g the tools and going through the trouble is worth it and recommend you just order a complete cable to fit your needs. The coax ill be bringing in will be tuned lengths for vhf, with ferrite filters Installed and a sheath to protected against abrasion along the entire length
@CraigL804 I would go with the 240. Contingent on your installation length, the performance difference between the two isn't worth the extra cost of the LMR400 and dealing with the larger cable. Also, UF isn't that much more flexible than standard 240/400, it's just built to BE flexed more in moving installations.
@@rlm975 I absolutely can't argue with that. In most vehicles the LM400UR would be hard to route but in Race Trucks, Buggies, UTV's etc, it shoudn't be an issue.
I would, for sure, love to have a better coax cable built for our car. Let me know if you can make that happen
Can definitely make that happen. Shoot me an email with a length that you need and I'll let you know what options there are. ruggedroutes.com/index.php?route=information/contact
Wow, info we all need to know.
Thanks for the feedback! Stay tuned for part 2.
We need a video on how to change my waypoints text size
There isn't a setting to make them larger.
Good stuff!!!
Thank you! Stay tuned part 2!
Steven, can split screen be utilized from the same map source? For instance: I want to display two different zoom levels using your USFS map card/data for Nevada using split screen.
Yes it can
I have an Elite 9 Ti2 that I use on a SXS. I’ve found that there’s a 16 kb limit on the plotted trail size. Anything larger than that, I have to create a new trail to fill in the portion that won’t import to the Lowrance, then when using it on the trail, turn both trails on as shown in the video. It took a lot of hours of frustration to get this issue figured out.
How long are the trails that you're planning? Milage wise?
@@RuggedRoutes The one I’m having trouble with is about 62 miles.
@@garyweston2536 that is very strange. Try backing up your data and settings then doing a hard reset. Let me know if you have further trouble or questions.

One example of this Excel entry is noted below: S37 59 340 E145 00 003 What is the GPX format equivalent of this point? How do I make this format conversion from Excel to GPX? Cameron
There are so many different Lowrance GPS models. Which one would you recommend for off roading/overlanding and how is it better than an Ipad with GPS apps?
I actually have a in depth overview and comparison between units. it really depends on what additional features and uses you'll have for the GPS. they are expandable into a very feature rich system. Check out the info here: blog.ruggedroutes.com/lowrance-off-road-gps_off-road-maps__integrations_2023/

Is there a online class I can take to learn how to use my HDS Live 9 for off road? I need to learn how to add sat images to the area I ride in. I’ve used Gaia to make a route on a GPX file for some trails, but that’s all I know.
I have a ton of off road tutorials on this channel and can make more on subjects that i havent covered. Satwllite Maps are available at ruggedroutes.com
Have you tried using the map create software with an hds live ? Just wanted to use it to put basics roads and highways on my gps but the file from map create I used for my old lowrance doesn’t work in the new one . Crazy how little low range gives you with these units for land useage . Not even major highways
The Map Create software is extremely old.. over a decade and generates files that are not compatible with current units. The maps that come in these units has changed over the years. sometimes there is more details and sometimes less. For a basic maps of the 48-states, check out the USGS Topo map here: ruggedroutes.com/USGS-Topo-Map-Lowrance-off-road-gps.html
Can you transfer GPX files from an iPhone directly to these units?
Yes, with a little tech knowhow using an FTP app. Connect to the GPS over wifi, then use the GPS's IP address as the host to make an anonymous connection. Then upload the gps file to the sd card or internal storage folder. Once the file is transfered to the unit, you can import the file on the GPS as usual. Let me know if you would like tosee a video on how to do this.
@@RuggedRoutes thank you!!

I purchased an X3 that was already equipped with this unit but i can’t for the death of me figure out how to get it to display that aerial view. Mine only ever shows as if it was mounted on a boat. Any suggestions?
you need mapping available at ruggedroutes.com for the aerial view. if you have the boat icon rather than the black triangle, then you need to turn off 3d mode.
